Tap Water Conditioner

When adding tap water conditioner, such as Prime or AquaSafe, how long does it take to de-chlorinate the water? Both products claim it happens instantly but I can't see how a few drops of conditioner can spread through a bucket of water "instantly". Can anyone shed any light on this?

Substitute instantly with on contact. It has to be circulated in some way.

Hello i...

I'm still using the old bucket method for my water changes. I just dose according to instructions and stir up the water as the bucket fills. The liquid appears to work immediately, because it goes directly into the tank after I remove the old water.

I add water from the tap to a "mixing container".

There's a Maxijet powerhead in there.

I fill the container and simply let the MJ circulate the water and let cloudiness dissipate. Roughly 10 minutes. I add Prime to recommended amount plus 10%. and let it circulate for another 10 minutes.

The thing I never figured out about Prime is that it recommends X ml per gallon based on a given chlorine concentration. How the heck am I supposed to figure that out? I've never seen a chlorine test offered anywhere.

The +10% seems to work fine and I'm just willing to leave it at that.

Pool supply places will have chlorine test kits.

I add water from the garden hose straight to the tank. I add the Aquasafe to the tank to treat the entire tank capacity.

I have no problems.
