Flourite lifespan

ada soil and eco complete are known to turn to mush dirt after 2-4 years. I read flourite lasts a life time and keeps its shape (no mush) because its almost 100 percent clay based.

Is this correct?

Re: Flourite lifespan

Mine is about 12 years. The plants liked it for the 6 years, not do much now. Small plants can be hard to plant.

Some people like Tom Barr have used Aquasoil far beyond four years.

Eco-Complete is essentially crushed lava rock, so it's not going to turn to mush. I've had some since it first hit the market. It's also inert, so it doesn't really have a lifespan.

Flourite is clay, unlike Eco-Complete, so it can eventually break down. But I've had some for easily ten years.

Not sure how Eco-Complete could turn to mush. It's lava rock, so that's not going to happen.

There is no "better" when it comes to substrates like that. Both have high CEC and tend to cost roughly the same. It's all up to your aesthetic preference.

If it were me, I'd go with Safe T Sorb and spend all the money I saved on plants or other goodies.

I've had Flourite for almost 10 years. Part of it broke down to smaller pieces, but it's still consistent and didn't turn to mush.
