OK I'm a pig (overstocking)
My name is Dave and I am a fish addict. Let me tell my story: I have had my 125G see through tank for about 20 years. It has become a high light/CO2 + ferts tank, with a combination of stem plants and vals, swords and lace plants. I run pH at 7.1, dKH 7, temp 79.5.
Anyway, after a period of passive neglect, my fish population gradually declined, and a power failure knocked off many of the rest. Normally my fish live 10-15 years, average. I had to restock. For no particular reason, I fell in love with the parrot cichlids, and bought 4, then 4 more and eventual ended up with 15 juveniles in my tank. They are very happy. My plants are doing great. I also have 5 clown loaches, 12 rainbows, and 5 or 6 other misc. fish.
Anyway, I have never measured any detectable NH4 or NO2 in my tank. I dose the low end of EI specs. So far everything seems OK. I know my current fish will all not survive long term, but so far they are all doing great. I just thought I would throw out a seemingly somewhat extreme animal stocking situation for a heavily planted tank.
