totally bummed right now!

Being the poor college student I am, I was shopping on eBay for a canister filter. I finally won one for 68 shipped. It was listed as new in box and undamaged. I was totally excited!! I get it in the mail late yesterday. I do a once over looks good.

So I start setting it up today. I fill it and transfer all my media. I go dump the hob into the sink and when I get back I see a small puddle under the brand new canister. Dang!! It looks like one of the feet is leaking very slowly but enough to puddle. I contacted the seller so we will see what happens. But now I had to put my hob back on after I just emptied the whole thing! Was hoping to go home to a nice new running canister

On a brighter note, good thing you caught it early.

Could you imagine discovering this leak the next day? (how big the puddle would be by tomorrow...)

Pearling.....it's way overrated.

Is it a leak from a crack or a leak from something not being tight enough/sealed right?

It looks like its a slow drip from one of the rubber feet. I'm thinking its a crack that I just can't see. Like I said I double checked it when I received it. The box it came in wasn't banged up and the floral box it self was perfect

If you didn't get the o-ring in exactly the right place they do leak. Occasionally one of my 306's doesn't always seat right when I clean my filter out and it has a slow drip under one of the latches - you almost don't see it dripping, you just see the puddle under the filter housing. Usually pulling the top off and removing and re-seating the o-ring is all it takes to fix it.

Take a clear macro photo of the suspected "leaky" area. You may be able to fix it yourself.

Shipping it back & forth is a pain. If your pictures are clear enough, someone with the same filter may have a suggestion that can get the canister filter back in working order.

What brand & model HOB filter are you using now? Also why did you want to switch to a canister filter?

yup, take the o ring off of the can and apply a light coating of petroleum jelly, put it back together and test it again.

Great idea! When I get home I am going recheck the o ring. Only thing bugging me the is i never even plugged it in. We will see. Maybe there is hope for it yet!

I have an ac70 on the tank right now. But I don't feel it really keeps everything clean the way it should. It doesn't circulate the way I want it to. It keeps one side of the tank clean but all the dirt collects on the other side. I have tried repositioning the driftwood and the filter but nothing worked.

This has happened to me also, make sure to take the top off check the o-ring and try again. Some put vaseline on the o-ring I just bought some for the next time I clean it. (Fluval 405)
