I cut my amano shrimps head off!

So I was trimming today, and I cut in deep into some plants and out came one of my huge amano shrimp's bodies.

I had completely cut off it's head. I feel sick to my stomach right now.

I then tried to get the body out with a pair of tweezers, but the body kept retracting like it still had it's head, it kept swimming, and finally went into my glosso bed, I had to dig it out. It was still alive for about 5 mins during this time twitching away.

I had to get the body out before the fish would start to snack on it and then develop a taste for my shrimp. That amano was huge too, now that I think of how many times he molted in my tank, its a sad day.

Damn shrimp just dont move even when I brush up the plants, even when closing millimeters away from them, they just look at you.

Sick. Always stir around your scissors around the area you're cutting to avoid this

Darwinism as it's best. LOL

I can't help but to wonder what the head was doing while the body was still twitching...

Pearling.....it's way overrated.

That must have been a big shock to you when you discovered what happened. I'm always checking the trimmings expecting to find one in with them.

After 50 years I do a lot of things right, but still get things wrong

Ban him! LOL jk

I put food on the other side of the tank if they get in my way. Hopefully its enough of a distraction. Waterchanges are a [MODERATOR EDIT] though, everyone wants to go up the tube.

Was trimming my hairgrass a few days ago and was thinking about accidentally doing this exact thing, I definitely took my time wiggling the scissors around and absolutely making sure there were no shrimps in the way. Sorry to hear that about your shrimp

I put a net over the tube to prevent that from happening.....I sucked up a Gsp once, it puffed in the tube I had to cut him out of the hose. Luckily even with some insides hanging out of his backside he survived for a couple years. Not sure if he is still Alive now I gave him to brainwave when I tore down my bw tank
