Best way to pull plants from a dirted tank

I'll be stealing some plants from two of my small dirted tanks. Any ideas on the best way to go about pulling plants out and minimizing dirt escaping into the tank? Both tanks have cherries so I'd hate to make a huge mistake and kill them all. Thanks!

pull it up slowly and wobble it side to side. pull it up far enoughtill you see enough root. cut the root short dont try to pull it all the way up.

i just re did my 40B dirt tank and it was hell when i pull up 15 sword. i end up tearing down the whole tank and went bare bottom for now.

Thanks. I can't imagine pulling plants from a 40!! Luckily I only have about a dozen plants or so... But your methodology seems to make sense!

Also, don't forget to turn the filter off first.

You can take a razor and cut in around the plant you want to remove. That will help a lot if its something will a lot roots.
