It seems im developing a bit of a problem As of today im about 90 days into my DSM on a 36G Bow. Right now for lighting im running one AquaticLife 30" 48W T5HO Dual Lamp 4" above the tank with (1) 24" 24W 650nm Pink Roseate and (1) 24" 24W 6,000°K bulb, as well as a 4X48 CFL shop light. The substrate, 40lbs Eco-Complete and
9L ADA Aqua Soil - Amazonia. in the past two weeks, i have noticed root rot on the lowest HC, and progressive yellowing then browning of the highest HC. Everything else is doing OK, but i really want to figure out whatever is causing it so i dont have any problems when i flood it. i was planning on flooding it and the end of the week. Here are the pictures of the progress in the past two weeks. To see more, just check out the journal in my signature.
It seems to be pretty significant die off, and im starting to get concerned. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
I admire your patience. I did a DSM on a 16 bow, I flooded the tank after a month of DSM. I also encountered yellowing of HC, what I did was less misting and just kept high humidity in the tank. HC did better after flooding with full blast of co2.
i know its a long time, i saw somebody DSM for over 120. is it too long?
I dont know if it is too long, but it 90 days (3 months?) seems long to me. I never did any DSM to my tanks, so I dont know if it is too long or not.
I have a high tech tank, and I do have HC in it, and everything is spreading and growing in less than 30 days with CO2 injection at a high rate. I personally would have flooded the tank earlier and start to enjoy it.
You do have good patience though.
Maybe it was lack of nutrients? I dont know, maybe someone else with more knowledge on the subject can chime in.
well, it really comes down to the amount of money i had: not enough money for heater and diffuser = longer DSM. but now i can finally afford that stuff so i want to flood as soon as i can. i think my primary concerns are, is the little bit of standing water causing melting, even though its about an inch lower than the substrate and is the amount of light burning the plants. i just have no idea.
