Cold weather-good or bad for shipping live things?

I'm wondering how the colder weather effects how we ship things. I remember everyone in the summer worried about their shrimp overheating, so the cold should be good for them. But how about fish? And plants? And snails? I imagine it should actually be better--the coldness would slow down their metabolism, and thus make everything less active and less stressed during shipment. What when does it become too cold? I'm assuming that packages aren't being left on front porches for a day, but going through the normal USPS system.

Below freezing, it's bad. You need good insulation and heat packs for critter and ship overnight.

Plants are good with 2 day shipping with good insulation.

Perfect shipping temps are in the fall and spring ( 60F-80F )

I think it all depends on what you are shipping, fir instance discus and cardinal tetras will not do that good in 70 degree water
