Dojo/Kuhli Loach question

A friend of mine is now getting into tanks after seeing mine and i'm going to help him maintane it and we had a couple of questions about these creatures. Should I use sand for them I know they love to dig and bury themself, We were planning on Oil-d Safe T sorb but wold that work with them?

I have both kuhli and gold dojos. They are in tanks with Flourite original, PFS, black diamond blasting grit, and eco-complete with no known issues.

They will like a place to get under something. Wood seems to suit them fine. I have them in mixed Flourite/sand but rarely see the Kuhli. I moved them this last week when I moved a piece of hollow wood and suddenly they showed up in the new tank! I was glad I didn't leave the wood out for long as I had totally forgotten they were in the tank.
Why do I have them if I never see them? Hummm?

hahaha! I broke down a tank that had a UG filter in it for years and you guessed it, Kuhli under the rocks and plates. When I increased the tanked numbers > 8-10 they seem to be more active. Kuhli don't damage my angel spawns so I have been adding in larger numbers over the last year.

I have both species in tanks with Soil Master Select. (Very similar to Safe-T-Sorb and related products). The Kuhlies come out to play every night. The Dojo watches me type at the computer. Both species and many other digging or burrowing fish do just fine in products of this type. No need for a special sand area for them.
