Things you learned in Reef, useful in Planted

I was inspired by this post by somewhatshocked, it got me thinking what other things might there be?

Maybe this first post can be kept updated with a list or something.

1. Reef Epoxy putty used to attach rocks and make better scapes.

Epoxy putty is great for rock scapes, shimming wood that you've screwed to slate and even holding pieces of wood together better beneath your substrate.

Other reef things (not necessarily reef-specific, though) that have been beneficial in planted aquaria:
  • Auto top-off systems
  • Using media reactors for things like Purigen in planted/shrimp tanks
  • Super glue gel for everything
  • Reef controller kits

Just being in the habit of monitoring parameters has also come in quite handy when keeping sensitive species of shrimp.

Some reef habits (like having so much flow you blow everything around the tank) aren't so great in the plant world, though.
