Extremely unhappy right now!!!!!

This is in no way a review of product and does not need to be but what I found just now has me furious!

As many of you know I have spoken fairly well about odyssea products as never had any trouble with mine. Until just now.

Came home after spending the last two days at my parents house, came in and could smell a distinct ozone, burnt plastic smell... Thats when my wife made a comment on the time, the fish tank lights should have been on but were not! So started checking, one of the ballasts had given out and wreaked of ozone.... This is what I found!!!!!

The thing had caught fire while I was gone! Fire!!!!! I can tolerate shorting out, the ballast stops working but for there to have been a fire inside this is ludicrous!!! I am thankful I have a house to come home to tonight!!

I will of course be contacting the manufacturer tomorrow, but not sure what else to do??

I feel for you buddy, but what else can you really do? This is where you take a breath, and say a quick prayer of thanks for this not taking out more than a light fixture....like your house.

Glass half full, bro!! But, that does suck!!

You can review products here but not vendors.

Had a Current USA fixture arrive wired to blow bulbs when plugged in so don't feel alone.
Glad it stayed contained.

Maybe they put the ballast external so when they burn up they are easy to replace. My bet is that they will send you another ballast.

How did you find out it was wired to blow bulbs?

That would be an awesome selling point . . .

"We mount our ballasts externally, so that when the ballasts explode in a ball of flames you can simply remove the smoking remains from your light fixture and attach a fresh ballast."

Hi NWA-Planted,

The product is no doubt listed with Underwriter's Laboratories (UL Listed). Report the problem to UL with the pictures that you posted here; doing so may help save a family's life!
