I am curious how long it takes for fish food to be processed into usable nitrogen? I realize it needs to be consumed, digested, pooped out then further decomposition has to occur with the bacteria.
I dose nitrogen on my water change day, and I am wondering if I should feed on water change day or half way into the week. If I feed on water change day it may take several days to become available to the plants which should be the amount of time it takes for the plants to consume the nitrogen I dosed. I am talking about a shrimp tank so I only feed once a week, the tank is extremely stable too I usually end up with 0 nitrates and I dose just enough to get my levels up to maybe 3ppm so my algae is aln all time low. If the tank ever reaches a solid 5ppm I get stringy algae, and my plants do not seem to yellow or loose leaves at 1-3ppm. I tend to dose heavy on potassium and lightly on nitrogen to keep my plants green, I speculate the algae likes the nitrogen way more than potassium.
