So today I went cast netting in my local lake to get some bait for snook and I managed to get a little more than just shiners in one cast. Any ideas what type it is? I wanted to bring it home since I don't think it's a native species. I'd say it's at least 5inches though!!!! Also I think it might has a little infection of some sort going on with both of its pectoral fins? Or it might just be from the cast net. Not too sure
I am going to take a stab at this one and say it is not a cory. I would guess a Hoplosternum littorale but I am probably wrong..the dorsal does not look right.
well based on your catch, id have to say you live in south florida as well.
Its a hoplo! I have two in an outdoor pond at my parents house I cast netted during hurricane frances when the waterways were drained to small streams. Invasive species, don't re-release it.
Prolly not. They get pretty big, but you could try. If not, find someone with an outdoor pond and throw it in there. Pretty cool fish, but still invasive.
I've never seen one as small as the one you caught though.
If a lfs will sell pacus or retail cats, why wouldn't they sell a hoplo?
