Popularity of Fish tanks in Southern NE/RI

Hello my fellow Rhode Islanders...

My question to all of you is how can such a densely populated area have so little in the way of local fish stores or club websites. Every store you go to in this area is run down, lacks dry goods, aquascaping materials and livestock. For those of you who enjoy saltwater as well, the coral selection in this area is also a joke. At least Boston Reefers exists where you can find some locals who have good corals at decent prices but even then the community is fairly small...

But I digress, is this hobby so unpopular in this area that we can't even get one decent store like you can find in western ct, New York or California? I would settle for one that even knew what seiryu stone was. How can the only planted aquarium club in RI have its last post be from Oct of 2012?

Are people just joining CT or MA clubs that I don't know about? I checked out the Boston Aquarium Club website and it was in a similar state to the RI one so I am unsure whats going on.

Please enlighten me!

what about Aqua Life Central: http://www.aqualifecentral.com/
The RI club just helped run the fish show at the NEC convention last weekend, it is certainly still alive and active. They have about 80 members

Thumbs up

I know the feeling of "no LFS" in the area. I may have been spoiled by the LFS back home (Dallas), but I don't currently have any plants that came from a store here. I buy them online just because I can't find decent ones anywhere locally.
