Southeast, PA?

New to the fish would and really new to the plant world...
Would like to find some ppl that are "local" to bounce ideas off of and ask questions. I know what I know, and, don't know what I don't know. LOL

alright then
do you know about cycling the tank?

do you know about the necessary equipment needed to keep fish and plants such as filters, heaters, fans (to cool tank during summer), lighting, co2, filter medias and other stuff?

what about substrate, fertilizers, water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, kh,gh, etc).

Have you done research on the type of plants and fish that you want?

1. Yes I do know about the cycling process. Tank is fully cycled...
2. I think I have pretty much everything for the equipment. I'm sure there are more things that I'm going to need to pick up along the way especially if I want more tanks like I think I do...

I dont know if I missed anything less the little things. Example: Extra testing tubes, extra air tubing, stuff like that...

Also added a pic of the tank...

Just got home and saw a little green algae so I dropped my light cycle down by an hour to 9 hours a day. I also noticed what looks to be small brown circles of algae or "mold"???
Ideas?

I recommend dropping the photo period from 9hours a day to 7or 8 hours.
Those brown algae are probably diatoms. I can't tell you how to get rid of diatoms because I am battling diatoms for a year without success. You can purchase fish such as otocinclus, bristlenose plecos, or SAE (debatable) to help you keep algae down.
Just research the site, if you want to know anything. The forums is filled with knowledge

I am going to try 9 for a few days as I have noticed that the plants are starting to take off, so I think I'll see how it goes. In addition I stop by a buddies shop today and they have a beautiful Gold Nugget Pleco (L-018), I think I might go pick it up this Saturday. 41 dollars but it has some amazing color...

Make sure you have some driftwood for the nugget.

and I was told that my rock would be ok for my gold nugget pleco, but, im trying to lower my pH/GH/KH as well and i was informed that driftwood would accomplish that...

Whats your input?

A lot of plecos actually need some wood in their diet. They get this by taking little bits as they rasp on algae on te wood. Although the gold nuggets lean toward the carnivore diet, better to be safe than sorryand include some wood.

If you feel like heading out that way, last time I was a That Fish Place, they had a great selection.

You can also look for cholla wood. I've seen people sell these here on the forums. shrimps and fish can feed off the wood.
