thought maybe i would give you guys an update on the 75g project. it's getting close, just need a few pounds of black gravel to fill in, then a nice layer of dirt, then i'm gonna add aquarium plants.com's substrate. a 5 gallon bucket's worth ($64, free shipping). the rock in the front is going to be swapped out this weekend after the wife and i hit a garden center that i know has awesome rock @ $.50/lb
@Steve, any clue as to where i'll be putting 28 anubias??LOL

oh, and pay no attention to all the mosses in containers being grown out so i can chop them up for the dsm.

Java carpet is achieved by using the lead plant anchors. I cut them down to small pieces then bent them into a U shape then just pinned down the javamoss into the sand at different places in the carpet.
So i had a huge amount of it to place in the tank...after a week or two it started to grow out pretty nicely and bushy.

your garden center charges .50 a lb!? mines charge .25 ! those rocks in the 20 cost me 5 bucks.

well, it's .50/lb for the larger rocks that i want. i'm not sure about smaller rocks, i didn't check. i'm looking for a lava rock about 12-14" high and i saw this place had several really nice pieces. i didn't think $.50/lb was that bad of a price.....lol

and that's a really cool effect with the moss carpet, does it ever pull up or is it attached to the substrate really well?

Everywhere! Haha...Maybe by the time you guys come over I'll have the 75 gallon tank re-scaped and you can get some inspiration. I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to put substrate in the 75. I really like bare bottom because I can easily tell when it's dirty and cleaning is a breeze. I guess I'll leave it bare bottom and do the layout. Adding it won't be a big deal because all the anubias and java fern will be tied down so ultimately I would just have to pull everything out and put it back.

Just talking out loud here...(well typing)...but raising pleco's is a lot of fun. The 50-60 fry I have growing up in this gallon jar are really fascinating. Their egg sack is gone so I'll feed them for the first time tomorrow morning/when I wake up.

Carpet doesnt attach to the sand...if it were gravel probably...and if it does attach to the sand i wouldnt know. It doesnt really move out of place tho...its compact enough that it will just stay there as long as i dont move it with huge amounts of water.

I'm so mad at myself right now. Woke up about an hour ago and looked into my 1 gallon jar to see dead pleco's spinning in circles from the air pump! I decided it would be a good idea to toss 1 measly piece of spirulina bit into the 1 gallon jar...just in case some of the plecs were hungry. Obviously when it broke up it just polluted the water and now 40/60 plecs are dead. Still have 20, but it just pisses me off to no end. I moved the survivors into another tank but it really took the wind out of my sails. Now I'm just like...."whatever...maybe I should just toss the rest into my planted 30 and see what who survives. GAH! So mad.

Live and learn. I hope my pleco's spawn again really soon. I'm gonna feed them tons of zuchinni and hope for the best.
