jimmy, that is insane. i guess it is a matter of how badly you want amazonia. personally, i don't see the allure to it. but i think all of the ada products are over-priced fads. we all do pretty well with rimmed tanks and regular (cheap) substrates

Hey Bill if we live in west coast and we dont have to pay for the shipping,
ada soil 9l for $28 is very cheap
i guess it can be at least 20~30lb
since 8.8lb fss is 17 on sale price or 23 on regular price
FSS way more expensive than ADA soil... and i dont know :P

they'll live in a port-a-potty if given enough time to acclimate...lol seriously though, they will live in pretty much any water except extremely soft.

i think it depends on what you are doing with it. if i were spending that kind of cash i would buy for shrimp: fss for any tank with plants: ada. but if it was a sulawesi shrimp tank (my dream), i would consider flourite sand with a small amount of dolomite to get the water hard and get the ph up there.

Shipping is what makes shipping heavy stuff expensive coast to coast. No way around it.

FWIW, I got six 8.8lb bags of FSS for $93.50 shipped

They were backordered for months when I tried to get Amazonia a little while back. I ended up canceling the order and getting FSS.
Unless you need the Amazonia for some serious buffering, I don;t think its worth shipping it.

I agree wholeheartedly. When i get around to building my shrimp rack, all tanks will have bare bottoms with a small amount of moss, except for any crs tanks, they will have fss for the buffering capabilities.
