I think it's mostly because of the heat from the light fixture, although with a glass-topped tank, there's the added bonus of providing personal cat entertainment. Luckily, all my tanks are covered so no, the cats haven't tried drinking out of them. They
do, however, have their own fountain (they are
so spoiled!)
