It was pretty nice, there was alot of plants, very good deals on fish, some saltwater stuff too. It was nice to meet some aquarium people from NYC for a change, the atmosphere was very friendly. I hope more people from the forums start coming.
I think this is the first time I've heard relatively positive comments on the BAS. I don't think too many forum members will start joining though, if they had to pay $20 to join a club, they'd probably prefer something more niche.
I believe auctions are a part of their monthly meetings as well, but this month, it was just a big one.
Is Coney Island generally considered unsafe? I've always thought it was too barren to be considered unsafe.
Yes, plants were only a minority in the auction but it was still fun to see where prices went. Lots of fish and reef stuff. What was really funny was how some common stock went for a lot of money while some rarer specimens were cheap. I can post some of the prices later.
If we get more plant people there, we could entice planted tank interest. The BAS forum is open to everyone so we could use that to start.
(Should mention that I've never been to this type of auction before.)
i went! the meeting was a new experience for me, having never been to an aquarium society before. there were a lot of dry goods & books for sale, and of course the auction -- saltwater and freshwater fish and inverts, plus a few plants. big crowd.
i stocked up on dry goods, as i'm still just setting up my tank -- still waiting for the lights to arrive from pets-warehouse.com, and the driftwood to arrive from badcopnofishtank. (i'll post pictures soon). for now, here are some snapshots of the event:
Went to the metting for the first time with a friend and we were pleased. Picked up a few books and dry good. They had a few endlers, apisto, acaras, cherry shrimp, ect. They also had a few saltwater inverts and some plants. Met a few people and enjoyed myself.
