Albany/Capital District area clubs or groups???

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of any clubs in the Albany/Capital District area.

So far the only ones I've seen in the Yahoo groups were saltwater groups.

I'd really love to join up with a freshwater aquarium group (or just an aquarium hobbyists group who welcomes both marine and fresh), specifically a planted tank one if there's one available. If there isn't an established club, I'd be willing to take the initiative and start one up myself.

Anyone have any input on this?

Thanks!!

BTW, I started a Yahoo group for Aqua heads in the Albany area, in case anyone is interested. I'm not sure if it's proper etiquette to post the link here though...

Irealize this thread is a few months old but I thought I'd resurrect it because I'm interested to know if there are any Albany/capital district area groups as well. Thanks!

I've been searching around for a while now for a fish club close to the Albany area but I've come to the conclusion that there aren't any. I've asked on a NYS board and the closet ones are usually in NYC or Syracuse etc. RPI used to have a saltwater club but that doesn't exist anymore.

Apparently there's only the three of us in the area addicted to the hobby

I would love it if someone would start a local freshwater club or aquarium society. I know Urkevitz is a wiz at freshwater and is local.

The only local group I know of is www.cdmas.org which is salt water. Salt water at times seems to be all about the $$$$.

Freshwater to me seems to be all about the fun. (Not too expensive.)

If I knew how to start a website that worked with search engines, I would start one. If I can find the best practices for aquarium clubs online somewhere, I will try to post.

Let me know.

Well, this part should not be difficult.

What day of the week would work best for the 4 of you, if sometime we got together for an informal get together?

I live in the Bellevue Section of Schenectady and Saturday afternoons work best for me.

New group that was just started. The first meeting was last weekend, I wasn't able to go so I'm not sure how it turned out. But if some more people become interested maybe it will take off.
