CO2 in NYC

So I am planning to set up a CO2 enriched 40 gallon aquarium. Where do you guys go to get your CO2 tanks filled? I live in Manhattan and like a true Manhattanite I would prefer not to leave the island! Anyone use McKinney welding supply on the west side? Thanks!

Well, if you are using the smaller 20 oz tanks you can always get those refilled at Stingray Optics; I too hate to leave the island but it is only four stops on the L train in Brooklyn and the store is literally feet away from the subway stop; quick in, refill, and quick trip back to Manhattan

So there is really no reason to get a nice new CO2 tank then if I only can exchange it. I wonder how it works getting the first bottle from McKinney, if it is a purchase or a deposit type thing...

I just paid $100 for a new 10lb tank filled with CO2.

On the spot swaps are for $15.

Getting a steel or aluminum is a hit or miss, but if they have it you can request it. They usually have them for 5lbs.

I got a steel one, which was fine with me, that's not the tank I'm staring at.

homemadepopcorn- Right! For some reason I missed your post. I'll give them a call.

Fuze- Where did you get your tank, at McKinney?

philemon716- I will look for the thread, I am not particulary good at using the search function....

Yes, Mckinney. They have all sorts of sizes. Best time to goo in the morning around 7. That is when they get their delivery and you can pick a tank right off the truck.
