Found Moss in NYC

was over around murray hill and came across a Petco, 32nd & 1st...stopped in just to look around, and found a good deal on some moss!

they said they just got it in, i've never seen Petco Union Square with any good plants...i haven't id'd it yet, but it looks like christmas moss?...

it's very structured and was only $1.99 for a large amount...will post a pic when i get a chance if anyone is interested...

Hehe, thanks for the tip. Had to stop over there to have a look.
Well, it doesn't look like Java moss...will take some macro shots of it tomorrow and compare.

$1.99 a wad...not bad...I picked up 3 of em for now. And the checkout woman..."Be carefull, that stuff grows quick"...as I see the register ring it up as anacharis.

My favorite part of Petco is when they don't know or care (or think their prices are nuts and deliberately mark it wrong).

Once got a gold nugget pleco for $3.99 rang it up as a rafael cat... Danced the whole way home.

I think I will wait for your moss to grow in and then buy some from you on the forum!

I have Christmas Moss and it doesn't really look like the pictures you guys posted:

Here are some pics from aquamoss.com of what Christmas Moss looks like. In person it looks very dense and compacted.

I am in no way a moss specialist, it doesn't look like Vesicularia or Taxiphyllum, but it does look a bit like a really really small miniature version of my Fontinalis antipyretica ssp. So I agree with carpenoctem, could be Fontinalis species, but propably not F. antipyretica.

It looks really cool, you guys really do have some pretty neat stuff there. I hope it grows well in your tanks. You might find more help from http://www.killies.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6, there seems to be a lot of moss people.
