A planted tank needs nitrate too. If it's a moss and shrimp tank, you may want to keep the level as low as possible; for a densely planted fish-only one you may want a high range. For my high light planted invert tank, I aim for 10-20 ppm for the sake of the shrimp.

Just fish, plants and 4 nerites. Again, I always read nitrates were a bad thing, but 5ppm or so isn't to terrible.
