Turning to the dark side

Ok folks, so i've been enjoying the hobby, trying to keep various species from the easy to the most demanding, experimenting with various lighting from CFL - T5 - LED - Flood lamps and what not. Ive never been too keen on emersed growth as plants take on a different persona and really if i wanted to take on gardening, i'd have way more space for it out doors in my yard. well i digress.

So lately ive been keeping my high tech tank with downoi, various erios, glosso and a few other exotics with great success keeping growth steady and algae at bay. There is a fine line when you miss a day on dosing or lower the co2 by 1/16th of a turn on the needle valve to disturb the balance but all in all things have gone pretty smoothly.

On to the news, ive decided to swap lamps and experiment with medium light high tech. why? because fast growth rates really isnt something im after and i'd like to understand how tweaking the lamps colors can boost growth, specificly the red and blues. This is an RGB LED fixture from heartnet which has proven to work well growing mosses so i am putting it into active service on my high tech setup.

My expected outcome is 1. less algae 2. maintained deep rich coloring and growth, fish being less stressed due to a dimmer lamp. dosing and w/c regiments will remain constant.

wish me and the plants luck

You and the plants will do fine , I'm sure. The only thing you may wanna do is some testing.
If the light is dimmer the plants may not be able to utilize all those nutrients as fast, so you ll end up accumulating and making fish no so happy. Unless those RGB lamps are so much more efficient for plants.
I went from high light to medium myself , and found I had to dose much less to keep everything happy .
Good luck anyways.

I can provide a temporary home for a couple of erios and downoi in case anything goes wrong with your experiment.

I guess it will look as good as the rest of your tanks.

I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way.
