Let me know when you are doing the NJ trip. I may be tag along, and I know the routes really well.
I'll post it, it'll probably be later in the week,Wed. or Friday not sure yet. Don't want to twist my knee driving so I have to get my wonderful wonderful bf to take me,LOL
I think you're right it was the travel channel or Diners,Drivins and Dives one of those. I went to this other place Jimmy Buffs last year when I went to Pet Shanty on 22,greasy but reallly good. Might as well get as much into the trip as possible.
Thanks for the tips on the places you went, haha, got some christmas money I've been holding for this!

Anybody been to this store??
PET INN USA
112 madison st new york ny10002

I am looking at google map in street view and indeed there is one. I never knew there is one over there for that many years. Has anybody been there? What sort of fish they are selling? It looks like a small store similar to 123 aquarium. Store front are mostly Koi pictures.

Yep, been there. Don't waste your time. Nothing there except goldfish. Even more of a hole in the wall than 123 is.

I visit Fauna frequently and have noticed that they have been improving their game in the freshwater department. They are now stocking tanks and light setups as well as more varieties of fish and now plants/moss.

Their prices are a little above average, probably due to their premium location, but their stock is top notch as well. I got a couple of Harlequin rasboras from them a few months ago, and they are the most brilliant I ever had. A constant solid copper color, and often showing a crimson/purple tinge. Awesome fish.

Might be worth stopping by if you are in the area, but if you are window shopping I would say chinatown is a better bet.

I agree. Fauna is nice but the price is a bit on the high side. But then again, if we can tolerate Pacific's prices then Fauna would be reasonable in comparison.

I plan on going back there again this week. Their freshwater plant selection is actually pretty decent.

Pet Shanty is friggin' awesome, but it's pain to get to from...Brighton Beach. Luckily they can be relied upon to donate some really cool fish to Brooklyn Aquarium Society auctions. I once won a pair of Nannochromis transvestitus they donated for $12!

Made a little LFS tour after a visit to Frank's this morning.

We visited two stores on the list that hadn't yet been rated.

1) South Shore Tropicals - First, the address in the list is wrong. The correct address is: 127 W. Hoffman Ave, Lindenhurst, NY 11757

127 Merrick Road as in the list is South Shore Tattoo Shop... Only a couple of miles down the road - so no big deal - and there was a pretty cool reptile store across the street.

South Shore Tropicals was nice - and definitely worth a visit if you are out that way. There was a nice selection of quality plants - I got a very nice bunch of Rotala wallichi and Myriophyllums simulans for $3 each, and Matt got a really nice-sized clump of Crypt balansae for $3; a nice number of very clean FW tanks, but not a ton of selection. So I would give it (2 smiles)

2) Animal pantry - 13720 Crossbay Blvd # 1 Jamaica, NY 11417. Nothing great here - just a typical mixed pet shop with a small sized fish dept (40ish tanks - mix FW and SW). Not really worth a special trip.

We also visited a few other already on the list. Tropical showcase and Pets Warehouse (177 Glen Cove Road) - both were really nice. Tropical showcase had a really good variety of plants (pots and stems) in great condition - I got a really nice clump of Myriophyllum tuberculatum. Aquarium village was also really nice - but had a heavier SW feel.

I also update the Google Maps. It also looks like the link to the map on the first post was deleted. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...09b9878cffe7fd
