Collection trip...

Flo (and a few others) shared the idea of making a collections trip for rocks, plants, branches in our local area. It would easily be a day trip and an opportunity to meet up and do something different.

thoughts?

<------- going to put New York on the map for awesome aquaria

The only place that I thought about was by the water of fort totten in bayside. Maybe inside Cunningham park where the bike trails are

I remember a church outing where to went to this small lake for a BBQ... I played in the lake, saw odd fish and flipped over rocks and found lots of leeches. I didnt pay attention to the flora... maybe I can find out where it was, but it was out of NYC...

I think a lot of the NYC naturey stuff are protected as parks so collecting is prohibited.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I just got home from petsmart in valley stream I was looking for plants since my tank isn't cycled quite yet and saw that they had green cory cats for 3.50, Emerald cory cats for 6.50, and pepper cory cats for around 6$ as far as I could tell they all looked to be quite healthy don't think they've been there long they had about 7 of each variety.

Hey evilg, how was the plant section? Worth a visit? Thanks for sharing your find.

Btw, consider posting local fish shop finds here: LFS New York City update... BETA 1.0

The one at Green Acres mall right? As far as chain stores go that one is pretty good with their livestock.

The plant selection isn't great there Albert, but the Petco down the street isn't too bad.

The plant selection was Meh at best they had some nice looking plants but you have to be careful a lot of there stuff was not meant to be submerged.

The petco was closed when I stopped by looked like they were doing some work in there saw a lot of shelving laying around at the door could be upgrading or closing up shop I'm hoping that they are upgrading the store.

Also stopped at the petco in Baldwin the fish were so so and the plants not in the tubes were coated in BBA not good at all.

Went to stop at total aquarium on sunrise highway in Lynbrook but they opened at noon and I got there at 11am.
