I seen that homemadepopcorn asked about live daphnia and was also interested in some sort of live food (other then blackworms, tubifex worms and brine shrimp) for fish. I've ordered vinegar eels, micro worms and grendal worms in the past but didn't keep up with them once fry out grew them. But rather than order online I would prefer to purchase a culture of live food locally.
I have one going in the HOB and another in a container. seems like the ones in the container die out? or maybe I should just feed it....
the HOB i cant see... so IDK. LOL
lol. Wanna know something else? Its like an super organism. Leave anything in there too long and it will assimilate it. It eats dead animals crazy fast. lol
But seriously though, you get use to it. As long as I know my worms don't come from a sewer, its not that disgusting anymore to me. Just nice clean micro earthworms.
I finally have LIVE worms! First batch I purchased was delayed because of super storm sandy, after the USPS held the worms for over a week after the storm they were all dead. The seller sent me a second culture which took 2 days to arrive alive and healthy!
That looks super gross, aka I'd love to try some day.
I got 3 containers of microworms- started with a culture from ecotanker and its awesome! The lil fish love it. My 2.5 with the random worms are good too...not sure what is even in there anymore but I see small 1/4cm worms on the glass sliding around all the time... when I throw food in there, they'll collect on it too.
I have two containers with microworms (got the starter culture from MrBrongher ) which my fry love, needed something for the adults so I purchased the grindals. Hopefully they do well. I seperated them into two containers and will feed different foods to see which culture will grow the fastest. I also want to get some vinegar eels. Seen a killie forum where they guy grows them in a wine bottle with apple cider vinegar on bottom, cotton on top of that and freshwater on top. Looks interesting.
If anyone is interested I will be selling a couple of sm cultures of the grindal worms. They are doing really well and I separated some into other containers. $5 each starter culture. I've been feeding them to all my killies, albino sterbai, H formosa, and blue zebra danio fry.
I'm definitely interested, but I would be worried about shipping right now since the weather has been sub-freezing hereabouts. Can they be safely shipped?
Thanks anyways. Been looking local for them for a while so just thought I'd ask.
