I agree with Matsu49. If I were to build this stand, my goal would be to make it so flush with the sides of the tank, you would think that the tank and the stand were one physical unit. I would go as far as to measure the thickness of the formica and figure that into my overall measurements so that even the addition of the formica would bring the stand sides exactly to the three facing sides of the tank.

I wouldn't settle for anything less than perfection considering how much cash you are dropping on this setup.

I wonder if one can buy a metric tape measure in the US? Never thought about it until now.
