The stand can be built with or without an overlap of 1/16 or so. I don’t think it will be the end of the world for you. If Jeff said to wait then wait if you want to. It may be to your advantage.

Yes, I do recommend using neoprene between the tank and the stand for several reasons, one of which is that it helps keep the tank level and another reason is for the dampening of vibration that can come from filters, pumps and such. Again, both Jeff and George sells it.
