Generally if you have cichlids you're going to have aggression. If you try to put them in an area they feel is too small, you're going to see much MORE aggression than if they had what they feel is enough area to establish territories. If you want to minimize the attacks, another poster suggested dither fish (you could try guppies or small tetras), add more caves, and if none of this works, upgrade them to a larger tank.
