Does anyone know where I can find some decent sized pieces of petrified wood?

Basically, what I'm looking for are decent sized (~10" long or longer) pieces of unpolished/unfinished petrified wood. I don't even really know where to start, but I can guess that having 10lbs worth of stone shipped is probably more expensive than just buying it somewhere.

Keep an eye on EBay... and if you want it to resemble actual wood, be prepared to start spending good money. You might want to post a wanted ad on Craigslist, or check with landscaping folks in your area.

What kind/appearance are you looking for?

Stuff like this really, I don't even know if it's legit petrified wood:
"Wood Rocks" at Bernie's Rock & Garden

I have some small pieces of what I had been told was petrified wood from petland out in lake saint louis, but I'm kind of looking for stuff that looks a bit like cliffs. What I've got basically looks like really short cliffs, which might work for my 12g nanocube aquascape, but I would like a couple larger (taller) stones to work off of.

I have what I've been told is petrified wood (I picked it up for $3 a lb) but it's all pretty small stuff. Having a couple bigger stones would make it easier to aqua scape with. I'll post a picture of what I have here in a minute.

I have a piece just over a foot long that I bought off of eBay. Was planning to use it in one of my tanks, but never got around to it. Message me if interested and I'll send you a picture.

I would contact your local gem and mineral society and also find out when the local rock shows are. That's how I've aquired much of my petrified wood, although some of it I aquired myself on club rock hounding jaunts.

2 2.5s, 3 10s, 2 20s, 1 29. Low light, low tech. Ponds

Tropical World Pets on Watson carries that. Pieces are quite big. Almost too big for my needs. I want to say $2.99 a pound.

I think Aqua-World in Ellisville has it too… not sure of price though.

If you have any dense woods near by the nobody really goes to I'd start there. I used to collect petrified wood all the time on my families property near Hillsboro, Mo. As a long term rock hound I have found peices that are 3 and 5 pounds just sitting on the surface of the ground. They look like normal logs too!!!
