I am a huge promoter of live daphnia. I absoulutely love these little things. They get your fish nice and coloured up, and you can gut load them too with different foods before you feed them to your fish. They will also encourage breeding.
Another thing about them is that you can plop a bunch in your tank and they won´t fowl the water. They´ll just hang around untill they either get eaten or sucked up into the filter. Also, they are the easiest things to take care of and raise. You acn kjeep them in a kiddie pool i fyou want out on your belcony throughout the summer and then just put them in a bucket and keep them in your room during the winter.
