Hi Frosty. I was researching the rasboras and found an article that said the merah can color up quite nice, given the proper conditions. The brigittae look nice. I considered both as well for awhile.I think you would enjoy the pygmy corydoras, and I don't think they would tear up your plants. They actually spend quite a bit of time swimming in the mid column. I think the haras are really cool. They have a very smug look, and a neat zig zag swimming pattern. If I didn't have shrimp I would have considered the little botia called sidthimunki. The badis...well...perhaps not the safest choice with shrimplets, but Frank assured me he is keeping them with shrimp. I fell in love with them as I had one in the finnex for a little while. I filled the tank too high after a wc and he jumped. So I really wanted another, and decided to try him in the community. So far he is great, goes right by shrimp without a glance. The other dario that is solid red is also a beauty. He has not had them available as of late. Some fish can be seasonal. Good luck with your new tank!
