Thanks for the reply dekstr.
the tank is 24 gallons - I have 2.7 watts/gal. of 6700/10000 Sunpaq PC lighting. I am injecting pressurized co2 through the pump filter intake at the moment, and by the Chuck Gadd chart, have roughly 20 ppm. I just bought my first bottles of ferts,(NPK, Iron, Flourish and excel for algae problems) going with the Seachem line for now. Do you think this is adequate to produce a carpet of HC?
And the planting IS messy... I purchased most of the plants my LFS had on hand, just to get started. I think i would like to remove most of the plants, excluding the Anubias on the wood, and replace with Blyxa Japonica, or perhaps Blyxa Aubertii as a mid-ground, and then something similar to Pogostemon Stellata for a background. Would these plants be compatible with my tank (lighting)? In the meantime, is there anything i could do specifically to make the tank look "cleaner"?
thanks!
