You're off to a good start.
Some of the plants I can recognize are some crypts, anubias, vals, the other ones I don't really recognize.
May I ask what size is the tank? 10g? What kind of lighting is there?
Any co2-injection?
In my experience HC needs high light in order to carpet, otherwise it will grow upwards and not look very nice.
As for background stem plants, there are tons to choose from, just check out the plant profiles section and organize by 'stem plants'. Browse around and see what plants interest you.
We have a very active swap and shop section where many members here sell their vast collection of plants for prices you will not find in any local fish/plant store or online.
I think the plant arrangement is a little messy, kind of like plants are placed wherever there's space. But just let it grow and the more you think about your tank, the more you will find things to adjust.
You will find that there are many paths to a great planted tank, it all depends on your goals.
Patience, planning and good consistent care will be key.
