Hosting Aquatic Gardener Convention

I would like to know if plant keepers in the West Michigan area would be interested in having a future Aquatic Gardeners Association Convention in the Grand Rapids Area. I'm the president of the Grand Valley Aquarium Club and we would use the club as the local sponsor. I'm experienced in putting on these type of events and think this could be unique opportunity to our area. I know our club would go for it, but I would like to get input from those of you who aren't in our club(yet). It's too late for the 06 convention, we would have to start soon to get the 07.

Thanks Tim

Go for it. GWAPA did it last and we had a great time with it.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot".

I am all for it. I would like to be active in this even though I live 1 1/2 hrs away. The distance will not stop me from attending.

Has a 2007 site been chosen or even proposed? I've been out of the loop lately

Not that I've heard of, but you would need to have a bid put together fairly soon, early February if I remember. But don't quote me I'm not sure or an AGA Board Member.

I chatted with the AGA big-wigs at the AGA Convetion about possible locations for '07. They had a few in mind, but nothing solid. Locations that are very appealing tend to be the ones that have an interesting nearby fieldtrip location (local fishrooms, big aquariums, something of the sort). I'd LOVE for it to be in Michigan - being close enough to drive means I don't have to worry about weight limits on the airplane

I am not a member of the Grandvalley club as I live in Kzoo and will probably be moving this spring but I would be more than willing to go to a AGA Convetion if it was close by.

Well Jen..the people in Detroit didn't feel that the oldest aquarium in the US was worth saving sad!!!!! We still have Greenville Village and gambling (wow..not!) if Detroit is being looked at. Ya know I wonder why way someone hasn't thought of putting a nice large Aquarium on the west side of the state..right on Lake Michigan..hum

A large aquarium was rumored to go into Grand Haven several years ago but nothing ever came of it. Grand Rapids does have a small aquarium which is nice for it's size, but penquins and Northwest coast saltwater fish are the featured inhabitants. We do have a very nice Botanical garden here in Grand Rapids.

I don't have my license yet ... so anything local in my area would be nice. Otherwise, I may have to carpool with maybe someone in my town that's going to it.
