Pioneer Valley Aquarium Society?

Is Anyone here a member of the Pioneer Valley Aquarium Society? This is the club for Western Massachusetts.

I have been a member from time to time, they have good speakers. Most of the members are cichlid people. They don't have meetings in July and August but start back up in September.

I was wondering if we might go and trade plants or whatever. I could probaly host a similar meeting at my house.

For what it's worth I have been in this hobby for almost 20 year and currently run a high tech tank with heating cables, chiller, T5 lights, co2 and rest.

I'm not a member but I've spoken there a few times, and over the years I've become friends with a number of members - its a great club

I'm going to check it out in September when it starts back up... would be happy to meet people to trade plants and such, especially if you have one at your house since it's closer

I am a member. Will likely be at most meetings. By all means bring stuff for the mini auctions! I try to bring plants when I can, and will hopefully be bringing a school of orange chela if I can catch them breeding again!

I've stopped in for a meeting or two. Good speakers for the ones I was at. Friendly people too. My schedule was too busy last year to commit to the club, but I may consider it this year... assuming I can make the meetings.

I usually feel kind of guilty using the quick reply... my replies are rarely quick.

Well that was enjoyable. Met novitt along with a few other members. The mini auction was fun. Free pizza is always nice too, lol. I think I'll make it a habit to show up regularly.

The only thing that seemed a bit odd was that the average age of the members seemed rather high... kinda felt like my church, lol.

This is a problem across pretty much all clubs. I think the big thing is getting us younger folks involved and active in the clubs. Let's face it, participating in an online forum is easy since you are able to participate on your own schedule. If more of us (read: younger fish/planted tank keepers) take an active role in out local organizations it's feasible they can survive beyond the lifespan of their founding membership, and we might actually learn something in the process.

Absolutely. After being in the hobby for over ten years and this being the first club I've gone to, I wish I knew about them sooner! It's invigorating meeting up with other hobbyists in person. Not to mention the older generation has as much to learn from us as we do from them I'm sure.

Sorry we missed this month! We will definitely try next month. My daughter may come, she is 19. Guess I would qualify as older lol. It varies. I love the yearly auction, and the speakers are usually pretty good.

Hope to hit the next one, since we live right near there.
