For the future, keep in mind that corys are a schooling fish, and do best when they're kept with several of their own species. I have six Corydoras sterbai, and while they'll go off on little jaunts by themselves, they definitely prefer to be near each other. I'm not saying yours died of loneliness, but having a friend always helps, right?

If you only had room for three corys, then in my opinion they should all be the same species. I think three or four might be the smallest school of corys I'd recommend.
