Wow! Scott's Pet Shop Closed?!?!?

I've been keeping fish for almost 20 years now.

The last 8 years I haven't been active. I got rid of a lot of equipment and only kept my 20H up and running.

Now, I've got the bug to start up again. I never did acheive my dream tank.

I'm setting a picotope now. I'm getting a 55g from my sister. So I'm in the planning stage.

Things have changed a lot the last 8 years! Especially these new LED lights.

I work in Westchester and I decided to go on my lunch to Scott's!

It's gone!!!

Where do people shop in the western burbs??? Scott's wasn't my favorite, mostly cuz their prices were high but they had a decent selection!

I started a thread today in the General Forum here - Angel or Discus Biotope.

I really need advice regarding substrate, lighting, and filtration.

I really want to do this riight!

I used to go there for cheap saltwater stuff now they have a very small shop on route 34 not even worth visiting. Good thing is now we have Aquarium Adventure 5 mins away and they have 40% off every 6 months.

The one on Route 34 is closed. It has been for over a year now.

Scott left the business a few years before it closed. Most of his crew left with him or soon after. The new owner was a doctor,as I recall, and had no idea how to run a pet store. Staff and stock quality went way down, and profits slipped. Apparantly rent increased, so the wolf road location closed. The second one stayed open for another 8-10 months, then closed as well. I heard about the whole situation semi-regularly, since I knew a few guys who worked there.

Scott now is a manager/partner/whatever at oak park natural pet and fish. If you were a Scott's regular, there's a lot of familiar faces and fish there. Scott is the only guy who ever has baby whales!

Aquarium adventure is still barely in my price range when it's 60% off. The prices are insane. Also, word is the dogs at Petland are from puppy mills, so I try to not support that.

All dogs in Pets stores are puppy mill dogs or "accident" litters.

No responsible breeder would even think about selling puppies to a petshop.
