LTB CO2 system

Looking to buy a CO2 system, preferably used, preferably around the $100 dollar range. I'm in southern Illinois, Olney to be exact.

careful with buying used co2 tanks - if you don't know, they actually expire. (you will not be able to get an expired tank refilled without paying to get it re-certified).

i don't have anything to sell ya, but if it helps, expand your search to include people selling used brewing equipment - that'll get ya the tank and regulator. you'll still need a solenoid, needle valve and bubble counter, but it's very possible to stay under $150 going that route.

good luck!

The best way to get around that, and this depends on what tank you have, is to find a place that exchanges tanks rather then fills them. Just keep your receipts.

Brew & Grow exchanges CO2 tanks. That's where I always exchanged mine at since I didn't have a place that would fill a 5lb tank near me

Welding supply places as well. They'll exchange a 5lb for 14 and change. Not sure what the price is at a brew shop. Where are you at Wheeled?

I live in Wheaton - never been to Brew & Grow since it's a long haul and I've got Winemakers and St. Charles nearer to me. That's good to know for when the tank expires!!

Two Brother's is in Wheaton and they have a brew shop I believe. You might want to check with them if they exchange or fill CO2.

Their homebrew shop is pretty weak. They aren't good for anything but the most basic of grains like 2row (which I buy in bulk anyway) or maybe a last minute bag of hops or something. But I haven't been in there in like 2 years, maybe they're better now. Maybe I'll check 'em out again.

Do you brew and have actually been in there? Cause most homebrew shops don't do the co2 thing - I guess I'm not surprised Brew & Grow does, because they lean toward hydroponics more than brewing... but none of my regular homebrew shops refill, let alone exchange co2.. that's why I go to the Illinois Fire Supply to refill. Believe me, it would be convenient to get refills at the homebrew shops!

Oddly enough I do want to get into brewing and have everything to do it except the time. I'd like to brew to kegs somewhere down the road and build a nice keezer for a home bar. Someday...

At the risk of getting too far OT, it's surprisingly accessible. I would recommend going to kegs pretty quickly though. It's more $$ and more research and slightly steeper of a learning curve, but it beats the hell out of bottle conditioning, take my word for it.
