He said next weekend all fish and plants will be 65% off if I remember correctly.

I hope they don't go under. It's the only good LFS in the area

They have that sale every year, but it becomes less and less of a good deal. I remember when you could buy a 100 gallon tank for $100. They have the same sale here in Ohio. Jacks has 75 gallon tanks for less than $100 right now.

I was also there today. 50% off $4.99 3-leaf per Rhizone Java Fern that is getting pale?

I'll spend more & get better from fellow members on Swap.

at 50% OFF prices aren't bad at all and you see what you are getting which for many of us is allot. They had good deals (IMO) on canisters and power filters too.

Unfortunately like most LFS you just have to be very discriminating when you buy plants/fish and watch the tanks for a bit to make sure fish are doing ok you can usually tell a sickly fish even in an unnatural environment like a crowded LFS tank, laying on gravel (some species normal), flashing or scratching on stuff etc. unusual colors or spots. With plants its a bit harder but dips in various solutions and through rinsing before going in will help most bad things that come in with them but won't guarantee anything. For plants with roots make sure they look healthy depending on what they should look like (usually brown or white depending on plant).

Worst thing you can do is impulse buy some stuff; I always go in after reading up for what I'm looking for, but still occasionally get suckered in by a pretty fin/leaf sometimes ESPECIALLY at 50% off!

I've gotten burned a couple times but it isn't restricted to this LFS. So agreed they have good and bad

BTW the 65% is for their Fish Club members only (pay for club of thiers not a bad deal if you shop there allot).

just an FYI.

If you are looking for Java fern, the best/cheapest I've seen in town is Ocean Design. BIG mats for 15 bucks.

Jeff (plant vendor) at the Swap usually has some killer Java Fern mats, well, at least he did last time. Not sure what he will be bringing with him this time around...

Which is better, the Roselle road in Hoffman Estates or the one in Bolingbrook? I have only been to Hoffman estates, I don't buy from places that sell dogs from mills so just to window shop & get ideas of what to buy on line and swaps and such. OK I did buy a plant there once. (I foster and do rescue, hate mills, seen too many horrors)
Petco had $1. a gallon think it might've just got over but they do it every few months; still have 15 gal with hood, hob and thermo for ~$35 - $40. with tax, black trim. typical single flor but can be rigged or shallow enough will do ok with many low light plants, even some med light if you use right lamp. I like the old 15 gallons esp for fry tanks.

Happy tanks to all

Ended up going to the Bollingbrook one today to see what they had left. Was planning on picking up a 20g high for another shrimp tank but ended up getting a 15g. Love this tank. Same footprint as a 20g but not as high. Perfect for me. Got that with a HOB filter for a total of $37.. Not bad I don't think. Also they got there shipment of plantes in today and damn they got a lot in there. They had quit a few tanks left also if you guys were still thinking about going. Sale ends 2-20
