Just FYI --

Ocean Design Aquarium is supposed to reopen quite soon, and is supposed to be a good shop.

I liked them at their old location because I would get some of the best gyros in Chicago from across the street (Mr. Zee's on Irving Park), and now they are opening up closer to me, so I'll probably be there more often :P

Anthony is a pretty nice guy, and I know that he'll make the new store pretty awesome.

I went to Aquarium Adventure yesterday to get plants for my shrimp Bowl "build"lol. I was happy to see a much improved selection as well as quality, of livestock. The plant selection was pretty good also. The young lady who assisted me was very nice and helpful and selected healthy and substantial plants for me. All of this is even more impressive in light of the fact that they get fish etc on Weds. Just wish they were closer.

Which Aquarium Adventure are you guys talking about? There's a two, one in Bolingbrook and one in Hoffman Estates. I always am going to the one in Bolingbrook (it's the closest to me) and I never have had any issues there. The fish are always healthy, plants look great, and the service there is pretty good too. Never been to Hoffman Estates, so I can't speak ill of them

I think it's primarily a salt water store but had anyone been to Capture the Sea over in Tinley Park? They are closing and having 50% sales. Since they only open weekends and I work weekends I was wondering if anyone would want to drop by and check out if they have any 90 gallon tanks for sale

I have been to there 50% of "sale". There sale prices are still about double other shop prices. It is funny they have been having that going out of business sale for over a year.

Coral Reef

Lawrence and Overhill 7725 Lawrence

They've cleaned the place up and is in excellent shape. Prices are high for the fish I was looking at. Carries salt and fresh water. Big tank stock. large driftwood. He has a large tank dedicated to plants I was able to pick up 2 medium swords, 2 large 20" swords, 1 rose, 1 amazon. 3 different anubias and a few cool bunch plants. They treated the medium swords and anubias as a bunched plants and I grabbed them for $2.99. Large plants, $12.99 swords, and $11.99 Anubias. Basically, if they are rooted and not in a pot, $2.99.

The best place for plants that I've found recently.

They are having a sale 11-26 20% of most stock.

125g freshwater planted tank 1 year old. This was upgrade from the 55. Contents include 3 Angelfish, 3 Roseline Sharks, 2 Flying Fox, 1 thing. It's not an eel., the other 20 residents are rainbow fish. 7 different species. 40-75 plants.

Excellent post! I just moved into the area late August and haven't had a chance to really go poking around the LFS. Do any of you guys ever get together for plant swaps? I don't have much going now since I'm renting, but once my family moves into a house permanently, I will probably have several running and I always like trading plants with fellow enthusiast.

In terms of the stores, is there a store that you guys would recommend that carries unusual and harder to find livestock?
