Purigen is great product on the market. Use it for the most part I usually place it in my filter so dissolves slowly and equally throughout my tank. I recommend it!

I've seen in most of the local stores, both local and big chain; prices range all over the place. Last time I was in Petco (on Beretania), they had it on sale.

The stuff is magic and makes my water really, really clear. I keep a packet in both my tanks. Plus its reusable... So you really only need buy one.

It really is a widely used and very effective product. It's certainly not the cheapest, nor easiest to work with, but worth it in the end.

Unless someone from Hawaii responds here, your question regarding where to obtain it may be a project unto itself. There is no shortage of online suppliers, of which may or mat not ship to Hawaii. As others have contributed, there are several retail outlets for it as well.

It can be re-generated and the process is documented in several places on the internet. But probably only makes sense for high volume users.

The real trick to using it is to keeping it in a fine mesh media bag and assuring water flow through it. Though most bags are fine, the cheapest ones will actually have a mesh size that will let some of the grains escape and make a mess. The instructions say a media bag is recommended, but it should really be more emphatic, and Seachem would help their cause by just stuffing a media bag in each container.

If you do use it, you'll be hooked. It doesn't take much to be effective and won't effect water chemistry like carbon.

i wouldn't say most bags are fine. most of the bags i see are too big for purigen. you'll need a 180 micron mesh bag to hold purigen.

Not only do you need a superfine mesh bag, you sholdn't let the purigen dry out completely, or it starts to break up. It doesn't take much moisture... when you open the bag of purigen for the first time it's not damp or anything. Just store it in a ziplock or tupperware if you're not using it.

Sometimes when Purigen dries out the small resin beads will crack and break. If this has occurred I would recommend that you purchase some new Purigen. If you need to store it you will want to keep it moist. This can be done in a plastic bag or jar.

The Purigen I've seen locally is in the prepackaged little bags (100ml). I have one 100ml bag in a Fluval 206 canister filter for my 29G home tank, and one in AC20 on my work tank. I recharge the bags when they become dark to the point of being black.

Recharging is simple. SeaChem web site has the how-to.

Well, I made the mistake of buying the cheapest bag on the site recently. Being a cheapskate has its' drawbacks. I have lots of tanks and tried to cut a corner and found a brand of bag that wasn't fine enough. First time, but I should've known better.

+1 on Kalihi pets. I saw it there last week and they even have the one that comes with a bag already. Just gotta throw it into your canister filter and you're ready to go no messing around with it

Kalihi didn't have and neither did petco, I went to kahala petland and they had the prepackaged 100ml bag. Just thought I'd let everyone know. They also said they always carry it and it is not something they just get once in a while

Aloha fishkeeper01,

Try checking elsewhere on this forum for a Purigen reactor. When I was first setting up my planted tanks, I was having some problems. I went with that set up and it helped to clear up my problems. I am running this after my eheim going back into the tank. Because of the "reactor" and it's filter, you can buy larger portions of purigen and just put a little of it in the filter section (I am using less than the 100 ml bag in each filter). I hope that this helps!
