My thoughts are they're awesome. They're friendly and knowledgeable. I just don't get that kind of service at kalihi pets or anywhere else for that matter. What's boring about it?

Same things all the time nothing new. For aquascaping daboss got me into shrimp and it's hard to get supplies here. Scott and Philip are very friendly. Love it there just the invert selection is minimum

Can't get stuff for snakes either. Kinda hard to justify stocking stuff for animals that are illegal in Hawaii.

Petland has most of the standard fish, typically pretty healthy and for a reasonable price. Plant wise they typically have some stuff that are a bit beyond the ordinary, you just need to be there within a reasonable amount of time after they get it.

Illegal? Shrimps? Hmm.... I thought they were illegal to import? I think you may be mistaken. From plant and animal quarantine. Neos and cardina sp are totally legal in the state of Hawaii and has never been illegal to own. Only importing. That's my understanding from them and the aquatic board committee which I believe is owner to Petland and I think one employee there that's been there for years.

I seen them stock fluval shrimp cave, breeding tubes, other shrimp oranaments, dry shrimp food, substrate, and maybe more when new shipments come in. But not wide range like mainland and other international countries.....

I remain to stick with Petland even if it's boring cause you never know what they might curve ball you.

Correct paloloboi! Shrimps are not illegal in Hawaii they are illegal to import. 95% of LPS carry the ghost shrimp aka feeder shrimp. If the shrimp are bought locally in Hawaii from a local source then it's totally legal to own. Department of ag tried to ban all shrimps in Hawaii but that's not happening anytime soon. Fact is being that you can't stop local buyers and sellers to stop breeding stuff that already been established back in the 60s, 70's, 80's, etc. All you cam do is stop importation of these animals. The DOA. Has tried and been denied by the aquatic board comittee to make shrimps illegal animal in Hawaii. Simple fact being cichlid breeders or monster fish keepers will eradicate our local stream supply. Nice debate paloloboi. Shrimp is a big thing in the mainland, hong kong and Japan. There are a lot of breeders here just got to look under the right rock. Lol

It is illegal to own inverts. The listing that bans import of shrimp is the same list that bans snakes, pirhanas, etc. With all the adds that are on tv, everyone in Hawaii should know it's illegal to own snakes and the fines associated. See this link straight from the dept of ag site: http://hdoa.hawaii.gov/pi/pq/penalties/

Just because they have not chosen to enforce the law doesn't mean they can't.

So if it is not illegal to sell, then why do you not see cherry reds or crs in every pet store? Based on the demands of the planted guys you think there'd be quite a market for them. Feeders can be sold probably as they are already naturalized, just like Jackson chameleons. They'd be hard pressed to prove that they weren't wild caught.
