Power Outage Planning

What does everyone do for power outages in Hawaii? I currently have no provisions and was wondering what some people's experience was during power outages both short and extended (more than 4hrs). Is it something I need to do something for?

+1 on battery air pumps. It will help the plants and fauna although it's more important for the fauna.

Wow that's even cheaper than Wal-mart. I bought one for fishing and it was $8 or so. It ran for nearly a week on two D batteries though.

Thsnks gor the info! Going to order me some. DFS site says to keep the air dtone on the surface to not disturb the substrate and not pull up any junk resting on top. True?

Battery powered air pumps helped save 2 of my giant goldfish's lives when I bought them some 600 miles away from home(it was a 9 hour drive). Get them and you shouldn't worry about your fish as much but in an emergency, I would do a water change

As a condo owner a generators are out, I instead have uninterrupted power systems on my tanks (and fancy electronics). My 29G tank is connected to its own 1350 Va system I picked up at Costco for under $100. The unit claims I have 100 minutes of battery time. Which will handle the smaller blackouts that are more common. As for the 12 hour black outs (remember that one) I'll need to pickup a battery powered air pump. They have them a Kalihi Pets.

Another benefit to the UPS is that it keeps my light and CO2 timer from losing time durning short blackouts.
