I first put 2 cups of sugar in the bottom of my DIY 64oz juice bottle and then run hot water from the tap into it to leaving about 2" of space at the top. This space is essential to let the foam from brewing have a place to go rather than up the CO2 line and into your diffuser.

I then put a top on it and shake well to dissolve the sugar. When the sugar is dissolved I wait until i can put my finger in the water without burning it but still quite warm and then add the yeast and a pinch of baking soda. I swirl the yeast around to help it dissolve.

The yeast will drop to the bottom then rise again to the surface as it begins producing CO2; typically within 2 minutes time. I then screw on the cap and attach to the diffuser. Bubbles start in less than 5 minutes without fail limited only by the amount of time necessary to overcome the water column pressure.

good luck
