another quick question... the lid on this tank only allows for one bulb... i put a 6500k cfl in it... that should be good for the plants and the shrimp right?

With that tank it shouldn't be a problem, I grow stuff with those bulbs. Have you been testing your water params to see where you're at in the cycle?

I like using sponge filters in conjunction with other filters. They provide excellent places for shrimp as well as a food source.

I actually just got a shipment of sponge filters in that will be going up for sale here in a few days if you need some fresh ones

I am only running the sponge filter and was thinking about using two of them but setteld for one dual sponge, this is supose to be a "cheap" tank. i think i have like $15 into it right now and that is because i had to buy the sponge filter and air pump.

I would avoid adding those if you're looking to add other shrimp, unless you feel like playing hunt and catch the shrimps. They get larger than neos and can easily out compete them for food.

You can find test kits online pretty cheap or take some water into your lfs for testing since most of them do it for free if you ask them I would def invest in a kit though

Sponge filters do not create a lot in the way of circulation and flow so you need to keep that in mind as well. They do however provide for a great food source for shrimplets due to their large surface area.

Edit idk why it put a frown face in there.

For any tank you'll want to know ammonia, ph, nitrate and nitrites although once a tank is established and stable you'll only end up testing randomly.

For shrimp it's helpful to know kh and gh especially here in fl I know me personally my water is insanely hard
