Aquatic Plant Club in Orlando Area

I am considering starting an aquatic plant club in the Orlando area. Would anyone out there be interested in participating?

Welcome to the board JimK!

Great idea! I hope some of the folks here on the board who live in your area will jump in with you!

Been lurking for a while, but a terrible Internet connection at home kept me from joining. I am fairly active in another forum, but this one was too busy to try to keep up with in stolen minutes at work. Well, I'm now on with DSL-Lite and this topic made me go through the motions.

I'm over just north of UCF and would love to be part of an Orlando-based club.

Count me in...Brian.

Thanks for the support

I'm glad to see so many responses. I've gone ahead and requested the materials to officially form the club. I'll post back here when I have more details.

Does anyone know of a location where we can meet?

Jim - I sent you a PM using the forum tools...because I wanted to try it! Let me know if you don't get it.

As to meeting places, no great suggestions, but here is what I've been thinking. Based on some from N. Orlando, one from Daytona and two of us near UCF/Oviedo, I would think some place near I-4 and the 417. Perhaps we could meet at Joe's Crab Shack in their outdoor picnic table area? Though I've only ever been there once, another thought would be at Crane's Roost Park near I-4 and 436.

Any other ideas?

Meeting Space

So far, I've checked out the Orlando Science Center. Great location, too expensive. $200 for a 5-hour block. It includes parking and admission. May be a possibility for a one-time event.

Leu Gardens - Other plant clubs meet there, why not aquatic? I'm waiting to get the price list.

Panera Bread - They have community meeting rooms at most of their cafes. The price is $50 for one hour. Still a little steep, but a possibility if we have a large enough turnout.

I'm open to other suggestions. The only criteria is that there is parking, it's centrally located, is relatively quiet, open on a weekday evening, and free or little charge.

That sounds like a great idea. I'm not so sure I'd be able to participate unfortunately (college + work = no time).

You might want to check on the status of Leu Gardens. Charley did a number on it.
