I’ve had reef tanks for many years but want to try a planted tank for the first time.
I’m trying to educate myself before I take the fist step and can use some help.

I’d appreciate any good links you have to help with everything from cycling the new tank to equipment selection to the latest advanced techniques.

Thanks
Dave, CT

Welcome to TPT!

A really good place to start would be to read through the stickies at the top of all the forums here.

Once you've got some more specific questions, post 'em and you'll get plenty of feedback.

Thanks for the welcome, With all the lessons learned (the hard way) with the reef tank I want to do a little more pre-education this time.

lauralee - this may be a dumb question but, what and where are the "stickies". I might be looking right at them but don't see them.

Here's the basic concept so far -

Tank - I have a 3' x 3' area so a cube, round, 1/2 round or octagon shape

Design - going for a zen type design...not heavily planted or stocked

Filtration - canister filter..likely eheim with spray bar (inline heating)

Lighting -due to tank shape may have to be a hanging pendant type..MH?? Also, want lighting to be able to handle any changes in my plant selection.

Co2 system - assume..due to low planting and high light will need to supplement CO2??

Location -Tank will be in a sum room but in the darkest corner with no direct sunlight.

Is this basic concept making sense?
Thanks
