What type of substrate?

I am planning on a low tech 5.5 gallon shrimp tank. I am stuck on the substrate part... I have some black gravel that I wanted to use but I also have some natural colored pea gravel that I was thinking of using.

Would either of these work or would you guys recommend sand for the tank?

Are you planning on using plants? If so, I wouldn't use gravel

I personally use sand in all my tanks. It makes moving plants around a breeze, and I don't have to worry about my stems floating up if I accidently bump the gravel.

I am planning on low light planted yes, so sand would be my best bet if I didn't want to get something like floramax or Eco complete?

What kind of shrimp you keeping?

Cuz if it's CRS you need a buffering substrate like NEW Amazonia

How I feel about non-planted aquariums.
